Attorney General Morrisey To Senator Rockefeller: Consumers Deserve Better
Attorney General Patrick Morrisey released the following statement today:
"President Obama and Senator Rockefeller have joined together from the beginning to push Obamacare on West Virginians. Now, they expect consumers to blindly sit by and trust their rushed implementation efforts.
"Why is Senator Rockefeller so convinced that these Obamacare navigators -- many of whom are seasonal workers, without a background in health insurance -- will understand thousands and thousands of pages of regulations in a few weeks after only 20 mandatory hours of online training?
"Senator Rockefeller knows that this Administration has delayed many parts of Obamacare because they weren't ready for prime time. Why move forward with this navigator program before it is fully vetted?
"I refuse to stand by and potentially allow West Virginians' consumer privacy to be jeopardized. How will the public know the difference between an Obamacare navigator and a scammer?
"Our office will continue to do everything possible to protect consumers and prevent potential theft of people's social security numbers and sensitive personal information. From the beginning, Senator Rockefeller has been one of President Obama's chief advocates of Obamacare. As Attorney General, my job is to protect consumers, ask questions, and ensure that no one is harmed during this implementation.
"This program deserves to be thoroughly vetted; assurances must be provided that people's private information will be protected before this is fully rolled out to West Virginia's families."
