SUES CLARKSBURG TRAVEL AGENCY Today, Attorney General Darrell V. McGraw, Jr., sued Mitzi Layne a.k.a. Mitzi Layne Tichenor, d/b/a Mitzi's Travel, d/b/a Mitzi's Travel Service, a travel agency located in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Attorney General McGraw alleges that Ms. Layne advertised and sold travel services to consumers, including airline tickets, hotel accommodations, and tour packages, and then failed to deliver. Some consumers paid Ms. Layne cash, up to a year in advance, for travel services that were not delivered at the promised time. Attorney General McGraw’s Consumer Protection Division has received telephone calls from at least 100 consumers who had discovered that airline tickets had not been purchased or hotel accommodations had not been made. Some consumers were left stranded in far away locations, such as Hawaii, with no hotel accommodations. "It is just outrageous that someone would take a consumer’s hard earned savings for a dream vacation, and then not make the reservations," said Attorney General McGraw. Attorney General McGraw seeks to halt Ms. Layne’s business in West Virginia and seeks civil penalties in the amount of $5,000.00, for each violation of the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act. Attorney General McGraw also is asking the court to order Ms. Layne to repay all aggrieved consumers. Attorney General McGraw urges all consumers who paid Ms. Tichenor for travel services they have not received to contact his Consumer Protection Division at (304) 558-8986, 1-800-368-8808 or 304-558-8986. | |
