Refunds Available to West Virginia Businesses Under Vermont Settlement With Canadian TelemarketerMarch 27, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Charli Fulton 1-800-368-8808 304-558-8986 REFUNDS AVAILABLE TO WEST VIRGINIA BUSINESSES UNDER VERMONT SETTLEMENT WITH CANADIAN TELEMARKETER Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced on March 21, 2002 that his office has settled consumer fraud claims against a Montreal- based telemarketer that sells listings in business-to-business directories. W.W.S. World Wide Source Publishing, Inc. ("WWS") solicited orders for two-year listings in its directory for $399.95, by means of outbound telemarketing calls to businesses throughout the United States. The court complaint alleged that WWS did the following: Misrepresented that the company offers renewals of listings in the local Yellow Pages, when in fact it offers primarily new listings in a non-local directory of limited circulation. Overstated the circulation of the directory as 1 million, when in fact it is closer to 35,000. Billed many customers without their authorization. Overcharged customers for a directory that is of limited value to most businesses. West Virginia customers of WWS will have until September 30, 2002, to send a written complaint to the Vermont Attorney General's office, and receive a refund. Written complaints should be sent to Elliot Burg, Assistant Attorney General, 109 State Street, Montpelier, VT 05609-1001. For Further Information | |
